Ex-Burnley midfielder Tony Grant has today completed his move to Crewe on a free transfer. The 31-year old midfielder rejected the offer of a contract extension at Burnley in order to play first team football, and has since been trying to find a new club. Grant rejected an offer from Chester and has recently been training with Crewe due to his friendship with Crewe's Assistant Academy Director, Terry McPhillips. The ex-Everton and Man City midfielder has signed a one-year deal with the club on roughly £1,000 a week.

Dario said, "Tony is a very experienced player who has played at a very high level. He is a Crewe type player who likes to play and get the ball down. His passing has been excellent in training and he isn't going to be a player who flaps on the ball." "He will be suited to our midfield, but I haven't signed him with a view to playing him straight away anyway." "We'll re-assess at the end of the season but at the moment I have only got the two young boys and then Justin."

Crewe fans will be hoping that 'Grantinho' - who made 165 competitive appearances for Burnley - will be able to provide some much needed steel in the centre of our midfield and be that ball winner we so dearly need.

Meanwhile Basque striker Juan Ugarte has been made available for loan with another of our strikers expected to leave by January. Dario has, however, said that he has his eye on a striker to bring in - though there is worryingly little news of any defenders coming in.
