The deal was in place with former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier to bring striker Neil Mellor on loan to Crewe but with Houllier sacked Dario thinks that Mellor will most likely stay at Liverpool for the time being to prove to his new manager that he's worth a place in the Liverpool team.
Dario Gradi told the official site, CreweAlex.net, that if Neil Mellor does turn away the deal then he has atleast two other targets in mind:
"The deal is certainly less likely than it was, because you can’t blame Neil for wanting to stay and make an impression with the new manager. That’s fine and if he chooses to stay there for the start of the season, then we have other targets in mind.
"We have a couple of names we could go for, once we know about Neil. One would be a loan deal while another one we may have to pay some money for. They may be difficult to attract but they would go in and know what to do.”
