Dario Gradi told
Crewe Alex :
“I thought we did alright today without being terrific. We certainly enjoyed more of the possession than this time last year against them, but we lacked that clinical finish after finding ourselves in threatening positions. On the performance: “It does concern me that we are not finishing teams off when we are on top. I think we will have a lot of possession in games this season and I don’t want people to say we played well and passed the ball around well but end up with nothing.
“The concern is that we won’t score enough goals, but we have players at the club who can finish and they will improve.”
On Rodney:
“Rodney did very well and I was pleased with his goals. The first one was a good finish after a good passing move, but I felt the keeper should have done a little better with the second one.”
On Sagi:
“Sagi wasn’t particularly tested today and it was difficult to assess his defending, but he looked accomplished and assured, as you would expect from a player with his experience. He and Richard gave them a couple of chances with some sloppy play, but overall they did well.
“He is more than welcome to train with us next week and if he does we could give him another go next weekend.
“I know Middlesbrough are reported to be interested, so we will just have to wait and see what happens.”
On The Injuries:
“That is the risk you take with friendly games. The injuries to Rob, Wayne, David and Rodney do not appear to be to serious, but it still isn’t too pleasing when you are forced to make changes.”
While Brian Talbot had different comments on
TheDiamondsFC:
“This was a very useful exercise for us. It was the first time we have played a league club. But to be honest this was our sixth session in three days so it’s kind of taking its toll.
“I always knew it was going to be hard for the players. This was more of a fitness session, which is why I ended the game with a younger side. It was our second session of the day because we had a session in the morning.
“I knew that this was the last weekend on our travels of pre-season so we needed to keep the fitness levels up. Now I have got two home games to prepare for and we have to get a team on the pitch.
“I have had a good look at players and now I have to make some important decisions.”
