Gary Megson showed his delight after his side came back from a Dean Ashton goal to win the match 1-2 in front of the SkySports cameras...

"That was a massive win for us.
We did most of the pressing in the first half but Crewe still looked dangerous,”

“We were sloppy at first and I thought we got away with the penalty appeal against us.
Our defending was awful. Paul Robinson let the lad run behind him and Thomas didn’t get out quick enough. We were lucky. The fact we’ve had one penalty awarded to us in the league this season while everyone else in the top eight seems to be getting them like Christmas presents means, in my opinion, it’s the least we deserved.

Crewe scored against the run of play when I thought we were on top after starting the second half well. We just needed a goal but Dean is a very good player and it was a good strike to give them the lead. The fact our lads came back from a goal down is great credit to them.”

Lee Hughes, who scored the winner in the 72nd minute, scored his 11th goal against us in the 11th game he's played against us in his career, and, according to Megson, it hadn't slipped his mind...

“I knew when he played for Coventry Lee scored a few against Crewe. I thought he’d scored three but then he regaled me with all the other ones he’d got!

“I remember him scoring here three years ago for us with a header from a corner and sometimes it’s like that. People have grounds where it seems to go for them. But there is more than just this ground where Lee has got goals and his was a good finish today.”

Meanwhile, Dario told Radio Stoke that the Alex should have, atleast, walked away with a point but the difference between the top teams and us is that they don't switch off when in the lead...

"I thought we scored a bit early and I knew there would be a lot of pressure after that, and I don't think we handled that too well." Dario said

"I thought we wobbled and we didn't pass the ball very well when we got the ball. When the pressure is coming on it is up to you to hit the clearances to your own players and use the space that they've left.

"The two goals were poor goals because we got sucked in. We have done a lot of work on defending that area where they scored from and I don't know who was at fault for the first but somebody was.

"Then for the second one Foz just let Hughes nip in front him to get the winner."

Crewe and Steve Jones went within inches of securing a point in the final 5 minutes but somehow Jones hit the ball wide after running free on goal. Dario admits he was expecting it to hit the back of the net...

"I don't know exactly how wide it went but I was stood there waiting for it to fly in. If it had have done I thought we would have deserved it."

But, Dario did find praise for Dean Ashton and his goal, saying he was 'outstanding'.

"It was a super goal and I thought Dean was excellent today. I thought he was outstanding and I thought Jonah worked very hard as well. He has come a long way in a very short time and when we were thinking about changes at the end we definitely didn't consider bringing either of the front two off."
