Lunt praise for Vaughany

Despite Wales boss not opting to select Alex protégé David Vaughan in the recent Euro 2004 Play-off in Moscow, Crewe teammate Kenny Lunt reckons that he is more than able to hold his own on the international stage.

"I think David's quality shows and you can see that from the start of this season, especially since he has been picking up man-of-the-match awards regularly. He certainly deserves his chance with Wales."

Vaughan made his debut in August 2000 for the Railwaymen but it was not until Christmas 2001 that he became a regular fixture for Crewe, scoring five times in fifty-five appearances since Boxing Day 2001. He is now one of the 'jewells in the crown' of Dario Gradi's young Alex side, but despite the boss being pleased for him, he just wants Vaughan to be available on Saturday.

"With the second leg being played on Wednesday he won't report back until Thursday, by which time we might have to start making alternate plans for our game with Sunderland."
