Luke Bid No Go

As we reported a few weeks ago - Crewe were on the verge of bidding for Luke Rodgers. Yesterday Dario and John Bowler were given a kick in the teeth when Shrewsbury rejected the bid.

In a statement from Shrewsbury Town, they say the bid was received and rejected on Thursday. "On Thursday chairman Roland Wycherley received a phonecall from the chairman of Crewe Alexandra indicating that they were prepared to offer a sum of money for Luke Rodgers.

"In the full board meeting at which the manager Jimmy Quinn and assistant Dave Cooke were present, the offer was immediately rejected and that decision was communicated to Crewe.

"As we've stated before we're an ambitious club that intends to do everything it can to get back into the Football League as quickly as possible and we're not in the business of selling our best players.

"Certainly not for bids that do not reflect a proper valuation of a player's ability and potential."
