Leicester Player Ratings

Ben Williams 8: Made two crucial point blank saves in the first half despite getting little help from his defence. Ben also looked more adept at dealing with crosses and there was a marked improvement in his kicking. It appears that Williams has found some confidence once again which is inspiring some great performances.
Darren Moss 7: Probably the best defender on the day. Despite allowing the Leicester attack to escape on at least one occasion, Mossy made amends by executing a superb tackle to clear the ball to safety. The young Welsh full back, being watched by Welsh scouts, was the calmest of the Crewe defenders on the day and provided the cross for Varney's goal.
Richard Walker 6.5: Not bad. Showed encouraging signs with some good clearances at times but also frustrated in other areas of his game. Yet to really convince and any weaknesses were exploited by the impressive Deon Dublin. However, Walker is playing better than he did last season.
Adie Moses 6.5: Continued a promising start to the season at centre back. As with all of our defenders, he was guilty of backing off too far on a few occasions when Leicester broke from defence but Adie continued to build on his solid start.
Anthony Tonkin 5: The much maligned defender was repeatedly beaten by Leicester's right sided attackers and when he got forward - which he claims is his strong point, he played poor balls low into the Foxes' box.
Kenny Lunt 7: Some superb Alex interplay found 'King Kenny' at its heart. Lunt orchastrated some of Crewe's best attacking play for some time and was involved with some impressive one-touch football. Despite needlessly giving the ball away on occasions, Lunty's performance was a marked improvement on some of the dismal performances the Crewe captain turned in last season. The wantaway captain also made an important clearance off the line after Williams failed to collect a Dion Dublin effort.
Gary Roberts 7.5: An impressive display from the young midfielder. Roberts' passing was a vital part of the Alex attacks and he often defended effectively. However, an injury prevented Roberts' from completing the 90 minutes as he was stretchered off following an attempt at a spectacular volley.
David Vaughan 6: Not one of his better performances, and one largely marred by a rash tackle resulting in a Leicester penalty. Vaughany did, however, slide a nice through ball through for Rivo's goal and linked up well with Lunt, Varney and Roberts.
Luke Varney 7.5: Another good performance from the winger. He took his goal well after just 39 seconds and his paced caused problems for the team he supported as a boy.
Michael Higdon 6.5: A hard-working performance from the forward who linked up well with the midfield but failed to get into any goalscoring positions. Many believe that 'The Don' is more effective coming off from the bench and he was replaced by Juan Ugarte.
Mark Rivers 7: A cool finish for Crewe's second goal. Having linked up well with the midfield, Rivo tired late on but this was probably Rivo's best performance in a Crewe shirt since his return.
Subs:
Juan Ugarte 6: Didn't have much time to impress.
Billy Jones 6: Like Ugarte, Billy didn't have much time to make an impact although he was more involved as we were defending at the time he came on.
Man of the Match: Ben Williams
