25-year-old Jones who in his final year of his contract at Gresty Road has played down speculation about a return to League One outfit Exeter City.

The Railwaymen's number one left-back and set-piece specialist has said he is happy at Crewe and would like to try and help the Alex gain a quick promotion back to League One at the first attempt.

Jones told the official Crewe website "I have heard nothing about any rumours relating to Exeter or anyone else until their local newspaper contacted me about it.

"I have a year remaining on my contract at Crewe and I am happy there. As far as I am aware it is pure speculation and I haven't said I would love to go back there or anything like that because it is hypothetical.

"I was aware that Exeter made an enquiry about me in the January after I signed but Crewe were not interested in selling me and I was happy with that decision. I have enjoyed my two years at Crewe and the fans need to know that what I've supposedly said isn't true.

"I am currently on holiday, no-one has spoken to me and I am looking forward to pre-season training because I am a Crewe player until I know otherwise."
