Revitalised Alex striker Steve Jones has warned that Crewe must not take Telford United lightly as the railwaymen look forward to the FA Cup Third round tie this Saturday at Gresty Road.

Former Leigh RMI man Jones knows an awful lot about the Conference, and despite being at the Alex for over two years, he is extremely wary of an upset from the Shropshire side, who he believes will be more than pushovers.

The Northern Ireland star told icCheshire: “When I was at Leigh, we played away at Millwall in the FA Cup and gave them a really good game. They were winning 1-0 towards the end but we had a couple of chances and then I got brought down at the Millwall end.

“It was a definite penalty but the ref didn't give it and I was fuming because they then went up the other end and scored again.

“Non-league players are always up for it when they play a league side and they'll be a hard team to beat.”

‘Jonah’ is also anticipating meeting up with some of his old non-league friends on Saturday. “I'm really looking forward to the game because I've got a lot of friends in non-league and I've played against most of the Telford lads before. They've got some good players, such as Lee Mills, Tony Naylor and Fitzroy Simpson, and we know it won't be easy.

“Telford are really making a push to get in the league. They've got a good stadium which was in the development stage when I was playing there with Leigh and I would imagine their fans will fill their end, so there should be a good atmosphere”,
he added.
