Jones has impressed Sammy McIlroy after his last two outings for the Notherm Ireland squad. After 800 minutes without a goal for Northern Ireland Sammy McIlroy is desperate to bring in a top striker - even trying to persuade David Johnson from Forest to recover the faintest of Irish blood in him.
Jones scored for the N.Ireland B squad against Scotland last month and last week came on against Italy to force Toldo to make a good stop. Tonight though is probably the biggest of his career. In Belfast against the likes of Raul, Morientes and Sergio, N.Ireland will take on Spain. Jones isn't sure if he will be starting tonight but if he is he could make history at scoring N.Irelands first goal after a goal drought and maybe score N.Irelands first Euro 2004 qualifier goal. Maybe even score a winning goal against spain? Would certainly get him headlines.
