It is rumoured that Preston are monitoring the situation of Crewe striker Steve Jones. Jonah is out-of-contract at the end of the season and despite Dario Gradi pulling out all the stops to offer Jonah a bumper contract to stay with the club, Jonah has been stalling on the deal for quite some time now.
Preston striker Dave Nugent, who the Alex have turned down on two occasions in the past, is attracting the interest of Premierhsip outfits Everton and Portsmouth. Should Nugent move on in January, it is believed that Preston see Northern-Ireland international Jones as the ideal replacement.
Plymouth are also said to be interested in the Crewe striker but Preston is likely to be Jonah's preferred destination due to the size of the club as well as their location.
Should Jonah move on, it is unlikely that many Crewe fans would hold a grudge on the striker who has had well documented family troubles in the past two years.
