Jonah: He's a special little lad - a real fighter.

Steve Jones has been overwhelmed by the support he's recieved from Alex fans all over the world after his baby son, Milo, was born four months early, weighing just 1lb 6 grams, at the end of June.

For Jones and his wife Lisa it's been hard as they take every day as it comes, with both sleeping at Milo's bedside in a Liverpool hospital. Three weeks ago doctors doubted Milo would make it, as Jonah explains to the Belfast Telegraph;

"Although he is not out of the woods yet, getting off the ventilator was a big step. It's quite a contrast to three weeks ago, when the hospital said he wouldn't make it, as he was having such a bad night.

"But, all of a sudden, he started to get better. Now he's just on nasal oxygen."

Problems started in April when Steve and Lisa were involved in a car crash which led to complications;

"Someone smashed into the back of us, the seat-belt dug so hard into Lisa, it caused complications,

"We were told back then, when Lisa was 14 weeks pregnant, that the baby would not survive.

"The doctors said if the pregnancy got to 24 weeks, then the baby would have a 50/50 chance, because that's when the lungs start to develop.

"We got to 24 weeks and five days. I don't know how exactly, then Lisa was rushed in for an emergency Caesarean.

"Milo was born on June 30."

Whilst Milo is steadily improving, his weight now up by 9 grams, Jones is still with his son at every opportunity, which, ofcourse, has forced him to pull out of this weeks Northern Ireland friendly with Switzerland.

"I've been staying on the floor next to Lisa's bed," he said.

"It's been hard on all of us, we've hardly seen our other two sons, aged two and six, who are staying with their grandparents.

"It's a very slow process, but he's a special little lad - a real fighter."

And hopefully it won't be long till Stevie introduces Milo to the wonders of Crewe Alex.
