Defender Chris McCready could be back as early as mid-September after the injury was not as bad as the club first feared.
Steve Holland told Crewe's official site www.crewealex.net "He came in to training on Sunday and early indications are saying that it is not as bad as we first thought, he is walking around ok at the moment."
"Chris is in the gym working already so I would imagine he is only a couple of weeks away which is a much better time scale then we thought we were working with.
"He is working on the bike and on the stepper and everything seems to be coming along fine."
With the news of McCready the club recieved a set back with Michael O'Connor.
19-year-old O'Connor who missed the entire pre-season due to him recovering from a hernia operation is now struggling with a tight hamstring. Also with the lack of match fitness O'Connor will be a few weeks away from the first team.
