Hulse left Crewe for West Brom in the summer of 2002 in a £1million deal. Previously to that he had rejected Millwall and Cardiff, whilst left Norwich waiting to see if he rejected West Brom. Cardiff chairman Sam Hammam claims that players who turn down Cardiff won't be given another chance, but after selling Rob Earnshaw to West Bromwich Albion for £3million they Welsh decided that maybe Hulse was worth another chance.
Hulse has found it hard at West Brom since his move, 12 goals in his first couple of months saw everything go rosey until a injury forced him out. He was forced out of the team, apparently in arguements with Megson and as new injuries popped up so did new rifts. By the end of the season he was struggling to get on the bench, and with Kanu, Horsefield and Dobie well ahead of Hulse the signing of Earnshaw more or less seals his short and, probably, bitter stay at Albion.
A Alex fan from his early days Hulse is a legend at Gresty Road, scoring 46 goals in less than four seasons for the Alex. He almost single handedly took Crewe to promotion in 2001-2002 when he scored 27 goals.
Lennie Lawrence reckons a Hulse fee has been agreed with Gary Megson and talks are on-going with Hulse; "We have agreed a fee with West Brom for Rob Hulse but he has yet to put pen to paper."
Now, I wonder if Dario put a next-fee percentage on this one....
