Rob Hulse is the name on everyone's lips as the Crewe supporting former Alex favourite meets Crewe for the first time since making his £1million move to West Brom in the summer.
Hulse scored 40 goals in just over 100 appearance's in his time at Crewe, after over coming a back injury that nearly forced him to quit the game at 18. He now sits West Brom's top goalscorer, with 12 goals, and West Brom sit comfortabley at the top. Hulse is still well respected by fans and even more so by the players at Crewe.
His former strike partner Dean Ashton says the move to West Brom was the best move for Hulse:
“When he left us in the summer he had become a really good player and he has just gone on from there and been exactly the same. I think he will always do well and in my view I think he was to right to move to West Brom instead of some of the other clubs that came in for him.
Hulse ready to put one over his life long team...
“I wish him every success for the rest of the season. Not on Saturday though!”
Luke Varney also got some praise in for Hulse, despite having only trained with him for 2 months before Hulse left.
"... Just seeing such a big lad and how he turns and shoots - he's just so mobile, Im going to love seeing him again. I love watching him play anyway."
Steve Jones and Rob Hulse struck up a deadly partnership in the early part of last season and between them scored 38 goals out of the 50 goal 4 man strike force. He reserves the same sort of praise for Hulsey whilst playing a few joke mind tricks:
"I spoke to Rob a couple of weeks ago and he's settled in well and is banging in the goals, but I've told him I hope they start to dry up from Saturday onwards. He's got a house down there and he's reallly enjoying it and if he gets into the premiership then it'll have been a great season for him"
Meanwhile, Hulse himself admits he's dreading it should West Brom lose as his friends and family are all avid Crewe supporters:
"I'll have family in both home and away sections on Saturday, It'll be strange but there won't be any split loyalties when I cross the white line. I grew up with alot of the lads at Crewe and we keep in touch. They've all been ringing me up saying they're going to kick me and my life will be hell if we lose. Im looking forward to it and it'll be nice to see some old friends."
Lets give Hulse a GOOD reception and please, no booing... he'll get that sort of message from Foz.
