Former target man Rob Hulse featured for West Brom in their Carling Cup 4th round game aginst Manchester United. The young inexperienced side of Man Utd, however, were beaten by a Bernt Haas wonder goal set up by Hulse before Hulse was replaced by Scott Dobie. Dobie made it two within 60 seconds of him coming on in the 55th minutes.
Man Utd had Paul Tierney at centre back for them. Tierney spent nearly all of last season onloan for Crewe where he played left back. Although didn't exactly look good enough to make it for Man Utd he was given his chance by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Also in the Carling Cup, Danny Murphy brought Liverpool back from 1-0 down to 1-1 vs Bolton with a super header from the Crewe trainee. It wasn't enough though. Jay Jay Okotcha made it 2-1 with a fantastic free-kick but L'pool's Smicer made it 2-2 with a 30 yard thunderbolt 2 minutes from time. Bolton didn't give up though and in the final seconds Djorkaeff won it for Bolton with a penalty.
