Higgy signs on the dotted line

Hignett signs for one month initially, hopefully that may be extended, and joins long line of former Alex hero's making a return to their first club. Wayne Collins, Geoff Thomas & Gareth Whalley have all had spells with us in recent seasons but it's fair to say only Geoff Thomas made a significant impact.

All three of the above got a decent welcoming but it'll be nothing compared to what Craig Hignett will get this weekend at Bradford, and even more so at home to Sheff Utd on Tuesday. The midfielder scored 57 goals in just 130 appearances for the Alex in just his 4 years at the club.

The 'scouser' moved on in November 1992 to Middlesborough for £500,000 where he became a fans legend, again. Fans still adore him and when he returned with Blackburn last season he was given one hell of a reception from the Middlesborough faith. Blackburn being one of seven clubs he's played for in the past, as well as Crewe, Middlesborough and Blackburn he made his mark at Barnsley and on loan to Aberdeen and Coventry. He is currently contracted to Leicester till the end of the season but the 34 year old feels his chances are too thin on the ground with just 3 starts this season.

Leicester boss Micky Adams told him he was free to go on loan, Adams also hinted the same to Dario and after Dario got the go ahead from Hignett it brought a 'sensational' come back for Higgy.

Hignett will be playing on Saturday, although may start on the bench.

Hignett's affect on and off the pitch at Crewe is priceless. He will bring experience to those that lack it, like Higdon and Bell, whilst on the pitch giving the whole team experienced and a booster.
