Scunthorpe United come into tonight's game on the back of a 3-1 win over Gillingham and the weekend while Crewe claimed there fourth away win on the bounce with a 2-1 win at Huddersfield Town. The two teams met earlier in the season where they fought out a 2-2 draw at Glanford Park that day Crewe took the lead twice only for the Iron to come back and claim a draw. Goals that day came from Luke Rodgers from the penalty spot and David Vaughan while for Scunthorpe Billy Sharp and a Crosby penalty ensured honours where even.
Scunthorpe's manager Neil Adkins who was the club's physio at the start of the season took over from Brian Laws who left to take over at Sheffield Wednesday. Adkins appointment surely stunned the football world but he seems to have carried on the good work that Laws had done.
Adkins may call upon Matt Sparrow after the midfielder came through unscathed and enduring two-months on the sidelines. Other players who are back in contention are Steve Torpey and Marcus Williams although Ian Baraclough and Cliff Byrne are still ruled out thought injury. Also missing tonight will be winger Ian Morris who is on International duty with Eire U-21 but his place looks to be taken by Sparrow.
Crewe on the other hand will be with out a few players, Jon Otsemobor is ruled out for at least six weeks with a torn hamstring also missing will be Nicky Maynard (hamstring), David Vaughan (groin), Michael O'Connor (groin) and Billy Jones (hamstring). Crewe expect to have the same side out again that started at Huddersfield on Saturday so Danny Woodards will still fill in for the absent Otsemobor. Daniel O'Donnell also looks to fill in for the injured Billy Jones and will have to man mark Billy Sharp.
