Gradi turns down Carter offer

Railwaymen boss Dario Gradi has declined the offer of taking Birmingham City’s promising midfielder Darren Carter out on loan.

The 20-year-old has found himself well down the pecking order for the Blues after firing the winning penalty against Norwich City in the 2002 Play-Off final to send them to the Premiership.

Gradi explained that although taking him out on loan would be welcome, dropping current midfielders to cater for him would be a pointless move.

Dario: “I had an agent friend on to me about Darren Carter, saying he’d like the boy to come here on loan.

“While I would like him to come here, there is no point. What am I going to do? Leave out Justin (Cochrane) or Neil (Sorvel)?”
