Crewe boss Dario Gradi has swung the axe again as the management team look set to trim the squad down in readiness for next seasons campaign.

The latest not to have a contract renewed is Lee Matthews, ex Valiant Matthews was signed on a year contract last season but has struggled with injury and had only made 10 substitute appearances.

28-year-old Matthews did interest Walsall during the transfer window but fitness meant the move was a non-starter.

Crewe boss Gradi said, "I think Lee has just run out of time here to prove that he can keep himself fit,"

Gradi also added "He is not in my long-term thinking and I would imagine he has been seeking a new club for a while."

Only last week two youngsters Cavell Coo and Christopher Flynn were told they were to leave the club once their contracts expired.

Other players that are to leave the club after the final game of the season are, Billy Jones, Jon Otsemobor and Michael Higdon all who have turned down new contracts.
