Wright is enjoying a great season for Crewe
Ninth placed Crewe have reportedly turned down a bid for star defender and captain David Wright from an unnamed Premiership club. Wright, 23, has attracted interest from a variety of Premiership clubs since August, namely Leeds United, Fulham, Charlton Athletic and Everton.

Manager Dario Gradi insisted it was in the club's interests to keep hold of the defender who is having a great season for the reds. The ongoing injury crisis at Crewe, which currently sees nine first team players out, means that the Gresty Road board are determined to keep him until at least summer.

A club spokesman said: "There has been interest in David Wright.

''Someone made an inquiry but the manager doesn't need or want to sell him. We aren't expecting to sell anyone during the transfer window and there have been no approaches for anyone else. The manager doesn't need to sell anyone."
