Geoff Fights On

Thomas won alot of fans in his career with a hero status being branded at Palace and a legend at Crewe. Thomas started his 18 year long career at Crewe when he signed from Rochdale youths and came back in 2001 to end his career at Gresty Road.

Thomas was 5 weeks ago diagnosed with leukaemia and needs a bone marrow transplant and his sister Kay is the one who can give him that help. However it will still be a long hard fight and Geoff knows it...

“I’m not frightened. I’m gearing myself up for the day when I can go into the hospital and have the operation. They will blast me for two weeks with Chemotherapy before theatre and then I could be in an isolation unit for as long as two months.

“Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s not going to be easy, but it could be the only chance I have. Doctors have told me there is a 10 to 15 per cent chance of it being rejected and then it’s Goodnight Vienna because your immune system is gone.

“However, if I do make it that far, it will take me another six months to a year to recover.”

"I’ve been touched by the number of cards, letters and telephone calls I’ve had from people I’ve met throughout my career. It’s quite overwhelming but it has lifted my spirits and made me even more determined to beat this disease.

“People from every club I have played for have been very supportive and I just want to say thanks.”
