The former Liverpool trainee, who spent six years at Gresty Road following a loan spell from the Merseysiders in 1996 has signed on a non-contract basis at Gigg Lane, and played in the Shakers 2-0 win over Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.

Charnock, who was released by neighbours Port Vale at the end of last season has been training with the Greater Manchester side all pre-season and revealed that he turned down an offer from Ireland.

"I had an offer from somewhere in Ireland, but I wanted to stay in the league over here. I’m enjoying it at Bury, there is a brilliant spirit here with a good set of lads and good players. Hopefully we can go on and get promotion now."

Charnock made 183 appearances for the Alex, scoring eight goals from the left hand side, and CreweAlex.com wish him the very best for the future.
