Former Crewe favourite unsure over future

Murphy, who was adored by the Gresty Road faithful in his time at Crewe, was Liverpool's most influential player last season, but he fears that the club have lined up a replacement for him.

"My people spoke to the club earlier in the season about extending my deal but there did not seem to be a solid answer. There is still a bit of time to sort things out properly but I have to size up all the options available to me.

"I would not want to leave Liverpool but you can never say never."

Murphy had to put up with torrid abuse from home fans in his first few seasons at Liverpool, but has now become a pivotal memeber of the squad at Anfield, and wants to stay.

"After what I went through to get to where I am, playing for Liverpool means a lot to me. I'd be happy to play out the rest of my career at Anfield but we will have to wait and see what happens now", said the Chester born Alex legend.

Danny scored 27 goals in his first spell at Crewe before being snapped up by ex-Reds manager Roy Evans. He returned at the back end of the 1998-99 season to help the Railwaymen stay in Division One.
