Fon Williams who has been linked with a few clubs in recent months looks set to join Derby County who would have to pay the Railwaymen compensation.

Fon Williams who did not make a first team appearance for the club put in some impressive displays for the Wales U-21 team that has caught the eye of a few coaches.

21-year old Fon Williams was offered a new contract with the Railwaymen and also handed the number one shirt for next season with Ben Williams also looking set to leave the club.

Crewe manager Steve Holland told superalex.co.uk "I would have thought starting in League One would have been an attractive proposition to Owain, but he has played some games for the Wales under-21 side and he has perhaps been advised otherwise.

"It is disappointing," admitted the Crewe coach, "but he is a young man and he is entitled to make his own decisions. That is his call. Both Ben and Owain were offered new contracts and Ben has indicated he hasn't got anywhere to go yet, so he is still a possibility."
