Johnson

Eddie Johnson has today signed for Crewe on a six-month loan deal. At the end of the six-month deal, the situation will be reviewed and if the initial six months have been successful, Johnson will sign at least on loan until the end of the season, if not permanently. Dario identified Johnson as a candidate to play the target man role in next season's new formation, similar to that used by Chelsea this season.

Johnson was a youth trainee in the Alex academy up until the age of 15 when Man Utd offered him the chance to join their academy, and of course Johnson was not going to miss an opportunity such as that. Johnson spent last season on loan at Coventry and scored five goals although he didn't feature regularly under Micky Adams.

The striker will make his debut in one of Tuesday's friendlies and is likely to feature against West Brom. Johnson is the club's second signing in three days following the capture of Juan Ugarte from Wrexham.
