Ex Crewe kid on target for under 20s

Eddie Johnson was a promising youth striker at the Alex academy before Manchester United snatched him along with Lee Sims in July 2001. The nineteen-year old has only made one first team appearance for the red devils, coming on for Darren Fletcher in the 3-2 Carling Cup win at Elland Road last month.

After figuring prominently in United's Youth Cup win last season, he was looked at by the Crewe coaching staff as a possible loan target, but nothing substantial happened.

England under 20s played their Wales couterparts last night at Stoke's Britannia Stadium and Johnson was the main man scoring both goals in this friendly. The under 20s now head off to the Middle East for the World Youth Championships where they face Colombia, Egypt and Japan in the group stage.
