Derby Player Ratings

Ross Turnbull 6: His poor clearance was one of the reasons why we conceded the equaliser although there was little he could do to stop the precise and powerful shot from Bisgaard. Dealt admirably with numerous backpasses with both his left and right foot but his poorest clearance of the day resulted in a goal.

Darren Moss 6.5: Mossy got well forward and played a big part in the build up to the goal. Faced a tricky opponent in Tommy Smith but could have done better against the winger especially in the first half where neither he or Mark Rivers got a tackle in allowing Smith to cross for Tudgay to head over.

Chris McCready 7: A solid return for the gruff looking central defender. All things considered it was an encouraging performance from Macca and showed signs of a decent partnership with Foz.

Steve Foster 8: Foz was dominant in the air throughout and took command of situations. Not only did Foz deal comfortably with anything in his area of the pitch, but he would also come wide to get a tackle in and would come into the midfield to win any high balls.

Anthony Tonkin 6: Not too bad. Tonks got a foot in more so than usual and offered a wide option on the left when we attacked. His final ball was rarely brilliant but apart from the odd moment of strange positioning, Tonks was better than usual.

Billy Jones 7: Did well. Billy rarely backed off but instead closed down his opponents, as did the rest of the midfield to great effect, and got a tackle in when the chance presented itself. Protected the back four well although he is probably carrying a little too much bulk causing him to be a bit sluggish at times. Supported the attacks well towards the end but needs to become more involved on the ball.

Kenny Lunt 9: A wonderful performance from the captain. Lunty provided the assist for our goal with a wonderful cross having made the initial break into the box with a clever spin. Lunty also provided Foz with an excellent chance only to be denied by the acrobatics of Derby's Lee Camp. Lunt threaded various other through balls through such as that for Luke Varney and the ball over the top where Varney miskicked and Jonah, after a few nifty sidesteps, shot wide. King Kenny was also full of energy and helped out defensively, got a foot in and looked like a player deserving of playing at a higher level.

David Vaughan 5: Disappointing, jaded and ineffective. Vaughany's good form from the end of last season and the first couple of games of this season appears to have deserted him of late. Vaughany is rarely getting a hold of the ball and running circles around opponents as we know he can and is lacking an end product. This may be down to playing too many games of late but the Alex faithful will remain hopeful that Vaughany rediscovers the wonderful form he has shown in the last six months. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Mark Rivers 7.5: Rivo was arguably our best player in the first half. Rivo provided a link between midfield and attack and caused Seth no end of problems when he stuck to the right. However, Rivo also managed to strike a balance between creating from the right and assuming a position in the middle. Luckily for us, Rivo got himself into a very clever position for his goal and is justifying his place in the team. He tired as the game went on and was eventually replaced by Gary Roberts but showed that he can be effective as a starter as well as a sub.

Eddie Johnson 6: A decent performance. His strength gave the Derby defenders something to think about but he rarely got into any dangerous positions. The one time he was put through following a clever through ball he didn't really look like scoring.

Luke Varney 7: A lively performance from the front man. 'Reggie' made a nuisance of himself in the air and also linked up well with Eddie Johnson throughout much of the game. Varney, like Johnson, should have done better when put through one-on-one by Lunt.

Subs:
Gary Roberts 6.5: Did well in the time afforded to him. Roberts displayed some good passing and popped up at the far post to net what should have been a winner for the Alex but Vaughan had wrongly been judged offside.

Steve Jones 6: Jonah caused some uncertainty amongst the Derby defence and got into some decent positions but should have done better when he received the ball in the box from a Lunt pass but eventually put the ball wide.
Man of the Match: Kenny Lunt
