29-year-old defender Colin Murdock has rejected the clubs offer of a new one-year contract. It is believed that the Northern Ireland international stated that under no circumstances would he sign a one-year deal.
"It hasn't come as a surprise that he's looking for a longer deal, and he is free now look to around at what other clubs are offering," Manager Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke.
Since joining from Hibernian in January 2005, the ex-Man Utd defender won many fans over with his excellent aerial ability although his lack of pace and some dubious performances at Millwall and Gillingham planted seeds of doubt in the minds of some Alex fans who will be untroubled at the defender's decision to reject the one-year offer.
