The 23 year old has stated his ambition to play in the Premiership sooner rather than later and after getting a trial at Leeds in August 2003 he got a taste for it, and effectively handed in a transfer request.

Wrighty now seems certain to move on after the club confirmed, via CreweAlex.net, that they are close to agreeing a fee from a fellow Championship club this summer. The club is thought to be Wigan Athletic who have come from nowhere to pursue interest in David Wright, after links with Fulham and Charlton.

Wright has been ever present in the back four for the past couple of years and could possibly be named out most consistent player. His 6 year career with Crewe has seen him come from the academy to be linked with the likes of Liverpool before injuries hampered his progress, in the Division Two season though he regained form and has since been a match winner in his time.
