Dario Gradi has praised midfielder Justin Cochrane for his contribution to the team so far this season. Signed for £50,000 from Hayes in the summer, Justin Cochrane has been a revolation. Justin will miss his first game of the season on Saturday, as Telford visit in the FA Cup 3rd Round, after he picked up a 5th yellow card against Wigan 10 days ago.

Despite Crewes proud fair-play league suffering from Cochranes bookings Dario says that Cochrane wouldn't be the player he is without the bookings.

"It's a real shame to lose Justin because he is playing very well and is an inspirational figure for us in the midfield.

"We don't normally get players with 5 bookings but I think it's something I have to live with in Justin's case. He's is very good at sticking a leg out and winning the ball and my problem is that I don't want to stop him doing that so I can't stop him picking up the odd caution.

"However what Justin has done is be responsible when he has got booked. He has learned that if he gets an early yellow card not to get sent off and that is a big lesson for him."

At 21 Cochrane has been turned away by QPR, sold by Hayes and been linked to Chelsea's Russian revolution, all in his short career. Cochrane, who could be classed by many fans as the player of the season so far, still has one or two things to learn - according to DG.

"Justin still has one or two things to learn but he has been excellent. Although he came to us from Hayes I have never viewed him as a non-league player becuase he only spent one season with them.

"In my eyes he was always a pro and he's proving that.

"He's very much like Wayne Collins during his first spell at the club. He has a good bite in the tackle and excellent excelleration just like Wayne did. He sticks a leg out and wins the ball and that's why we can live with the occassional booking."
