Dario optimistic of Mellor signing

Dario wants Mellor on a season long loan but with Mellor over 21 it'll need co-operation from Liverpool to allow him to extend his stay every three months instead of recalling him. The deal though has been agreed and it seems like the deal should go through IF Mellor agrees to the move, so any gate crashers won't get in before us - with Ipswich rumoured to be after Mellor yesterday on CreweAlex.com.

The 21 year old 'target man' was once described as 'the goal machine' by Gerard Houllier at Liverpool. A awesome record in the Liverpool U-19s and reserves has seem him more recently score ten goals in four appearances. Of course, it's not all good about Mellor as West Ham fans will tell you. Mellor spent the majority of last season on loan there but under three managers and unfamiliar surroundings of London the born and bred scouser never settled and West Ham certainly didn't feel he lived up to his reputation.

At 6ft Mellor will always be a presence in the side and would add that extra Premiership quality, after playing six games for Liverpool in the league and cup and even scored once. The son of former Man City player Ian Mellor had his most prolific season in 2001-2002 for the U19s at Liverpool where he scored 56 goals in one season - the season where he caught everyones eye.

Mellor is yet to agree to the move as of yet but it will be a major coup if it comes off and if he comes to prove his West Ham critics wrong he'll be a damn fine striker to have. Dario remains 'optimistic' about Mellor signing.
