Speaking to the Official Site, crewealex.net, Dario spoke about todays game at Prenton Park: "We have had a terrific pre-season and the main objective is to have everyone fit for next week and I think we will be close to that. Everyone should be fit and in contention for the start of the season.

"It was a good performance today and we looked a lot better than when we did when we lost here in the league at the tail end of last season. We are playing a different way, playing deeper and trying to hit teams on the break and we looked dangerous today. We created a number of chances and took them well.

Dean: We have told him what we want from him

"Dean is due to have a proper season with us. After the hype of a couple of years ago he hasn't quite lived up to that but we didn't expect him to. We have told him what we want from him and he is up to the challenge.

"Steve Jones is facing another step up but he got his goal and looked lively throughout. I only took him off because I was afraid that he would get injured and I don't have much cover in that area.

Dario though has u-turned on what he said last month - to let Varney and Robinson to play the start of the season. DG now says a new striker will need to be brought in and now following a week of a Luke Rodgers bid - maybe Dario will try and match the asking price for Rodgers, which is thought to be at £500k.

"Robinson and Varney have yet to show me that they can fit that role and so I'm still looking to strengthen our options up front."
