Crewe V Tranmere at The Alexandra Stadium - Match Preview

Oliver set for Crewe bow

Boss Steve Davis could hand Vadaine Oliver his first Crewe start when his side entertain Tranmere.

The former Lincoln striker has so far made two appearances from the bench, but Davis could opt for the 21-year-old as he goes in search of a first win of the season.

The hosts also hope to welcome back Byron Moore and summer signing Lee Molyneux from injury and suspension respectively, but last season's top scorer Mathias Pogba is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines following surgery on his knee.

The Alex remain unbeaten at home against Tranmere since 1999 and will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the opening game of this season when they threw away a two-goal lead against Rotherham.

Tranmere have a number of injury concerns for manager Ronnie Moore to contend with.

Midfielder Jason Koumas is a slight doubt after he pulled out of Wednesday's reserve fixture with a tight groin while Joe Thompson was absent from training because of illness.

Moore also confirmed striker Akpo Sodje could miss out after picking up a knock and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro is expected to deputise in his place.

Jason Mooney, Ian Goodison, Joe Thompson and Jake Kirby are also carrying minor knocks but should be available if called upon.
