Alex wait on Oliver and Waters
Crewe are hopeful both Vadaine Oliver and Billy Waters can return to action against Rotherham.
Striker Oliver, a summer recruit from Lincoln, has seen his pre-season disrupted by a groin injury which has kept him out of the last four friendlies.
However, like Waters - who has been hampered by a knee problem - Oliver returned to training on Thursday with Alex hopeful both can declare their fitness against the Millers.
Forward Mathias Pogba, who was the club's top scorer last season, is struggling with a knee injury he picked up against Manchester United on Monday.
Chuks Aneke sealed a loan return on Friday from Arsenal, though they are waiting for his paperwork to clear.
Rotherham are expecting striker Daniel Nardiello to be fit.
Nardiello scored 18 goals last season as the Millers ended a six-season stay in the bottom tier, but he sustained a hamstring injury in the pre-season clash with Huddersfield and only returned to training this week.
That is the only injury concern for boss Steve Evans who could hand a host of debuts to his summer signings, with Richard Brindley and David Worrall likely to get first starts.
If Nardiello is fit he will be battling it out with new arrivals Danny Hylton and Matt Tubbs for a place in attack alongside Alex Revell.
