With Crewe Technical Director Dario Gradi ruling out a move for prolific Forest Green striker Stuart Fleetwood in January they could turn to Bury's Andy Bishop.
Crewe have been keen on the former York City striker and made a bid in August but that was rejected by the Shakers and with the player signing an extension the Railwaymen may make a renewed bid even though Bury value him at £500k.
Dario told superalex.co.uk:'Bishop is one we'd look at again, but he would be expensive,' Gradi said.
'I have spoken to Jim Harvey (the Forest Green manager) about Fleetwood, but I don't think he and Nicky Maynard would work together.'
But just like any striker Bishop has his admirers with Ipswich Town watching things closely.
