Bury midfielder Simon Whaley has joined Preston in a deal worth £300,000. Whaley was out-of-contract last summer with Crewe deciding against signing the player at the time to avoid halting the development of Gary Roberts and Billy Jones. Crewe, however, continued monitoring the players situation with the 20-year old midfielder also able to play on the right side of midfield. Preston have, however, been alerted to the pacey midfielder following a series of impressive displays.
The Crewe management have been busy this month so far having bid for 3 players, in addition to further enquiries with regards to various players. If the Gareth McAuley deal is to be resurrected, McAuley must turn up for direct discussions with the club's management face to face by 'Monday or Tuesday'. Meanwhile, Crewe will attempt to close on the signings of the Polish defenders this week with Crewe's management team keen to add quality to the squad in this transfer window. Dario has, however, confirmed that no enquiries have been made about any of his players despite speculation of Man City intensively watching Billy Jones and also David Vaughan.
