Crewe have targeted a few defenders over the last few months and with Dario failing to persuade Lincoln's Gareth McAuley to sign during the January transfer window he has turned his attentions elsewhere.

Last week Crewe suffered a set back last week with Port Vale defender George Pilkington turning Crewe down. So now it is believed Dario has turned his attentions to Lincoln City's other centre half Jamie McCombe.

Jamie who is 23-years old would command a fee believed to be £100-125k as he is contracted to the Imp's till 2007. McCombe made 40 league appearances this season scoring 4 goals as they just missed out on getting to the play-off finals. Six foot 5 inch McCombe had previously played for Scunthorpe United and Halifax Town before he joined the Imp's in January 2004. His performances at Scunthorpe earned him a trial at Premiership club Aston Villa back in the season of 2001-2002.
