21-year-old Walton has joined the Railwaymen until the end of the season.
The Leeds born midfielder started his career in 2004 at his hometown club Leeds United making 34 apperanaces before he moved to then Premiership side Charlton Athletic for a fee of £500k but he was loaned out not long after signing and he joined Ipswich Town in August 2006 making 19 appearances netting 3 goals for the Tractor Boys..
Then in 2007 he joined another Championship team and this time it was Cardiff City where he made 6 appearances.
Walton never made an appearance for the Addicks during his year at the club.
In the summer of 2007 Walton joined Championship side QPR in a £200k deal but during pre-season he broke his leg and only made 5 appearances for the Hoops.
January 2008 saw Walton join his 6th club when he joined then promotion chasing Hull City for the remainder of the season making 10 appearances for the Tigers.
In the summer off 2008 Plymouth Argyle snapped up Walton from QPR for a fee believed to be £500k, Walton made 13 appearances for the Home Park club and was placed on the transfer list in December after being sent off in the 2-0 defeat away to Barnsley.
Manager Paul Sturrock questioned Walton's temperament and attitude which forced him to place him on the transfer list.
Walton then joined fellow Championship side Blackpool making only one appearance for the Seasiders.
Only last November Walton was linked with a move to Crewe but rejected the move and then again in January was linked again but decided to fight for his place at Home Park.
Walton has been given a shirt number of 28 and will go straight into the squad for the home game against Stockport County in the Johnstones Paint Trophy.
