Malta U-21s 0-1 Crewe -
6pm and the sun was setting after a hot but breezey day. Dario didn't get to the sidelines till a few minutes after kick off but found time to more or less thank to 40 or so Crewe fans who made the trip to Malta. Malta U-21s rarley threatened the Alex defence which consisted of Richard Walker who demanded that area - while having a little arguement with Big George. Foster also kept solid as Maltas rare attacks were soon broken down.
Meanwhile poor Vaughan was playing in two positions at once, he had to attack down the left while having to defend down the left at the same time. On the 35th minute, after quite a dull game, Colin Little brought the crowd to life as the 40 Crewe fans applaused(Like one you would get at golf) him when he vollyed the ball into the net. After that it turned back to the dull game it was.
Man Of The Match : Alex Morris
Malta XI 1-0 Crewe -
The fans were back plus a few Maltese who came to watch the Alex - we would like to think. From the start Malta looked a tougher test for the Alex than their yougsters, Bankole was tested straight from the start as the Maltese hit a 25 yard screamer but in typically Bankole fashion, he made the most of it. The Alex then had a better chance as 5 of our players... including Hulse, scrambled in the boxed each having a shot blocked before Malta hit it to saftey. At Half time the fans got they had been waiting for... Dave Brammer. He put on his blue shirt and got going, although he wasn't at his best the fans were pleased to see him on and they would have been delighted if his rebound shot from a Vaughan free-kick had got past the keeper. Although Malta were tougher than the U-21s we should have beaten them as they played dirty at times and lets face it - they are shit. But as Crewe do we fell apart in the 93rd minuted and Malta smacked a ball from the edge of the area and Bankole stood their and watched it fly into the top corner. The whistle went and the players went straight for the warm down.
Man Of The Match - Rob Hulse.
So after 6 days of 2 training sessions a day and then a swim straight after their morning training session the players can come back relaxed and fit for the new season. Whatever the score was training in the heat over there will have improved all their stanima ready for next season and maybe won over a few Maltese hearts?
On the last day of their trip the players were free off football and all went out to roam Malta and do some shopping.
