Crewe Miss Out On Outstanding Candidate

Missed Target

Dario Gradi has revealed his disappointment at not being able to sign highly rated ex-Swindon striker Sam Parkin. Dario also attempted to justify his realistic attitude when chasing targets who attract interest from bigger clubs, with Ipswich, Watford and Norwich in contention in this particular instance. Dario went on to explain, “While we could have competed with the fee, we couldn't match the wages he will be on there.”

The 24-year-old striker was with Swindon for three seasons scoring 71 goals in that time after joining from Chelsea in early 2002. The 6’2 forward would have been ideal for Crewe with Gradi labelling him as the “outstanding candidate”, possessing good link up play, impressive aerial ability and strength. Parkin’s £450,000 move to Ipswich means that Crewe’s strike problems continue with Gradi yet to find a suitable replacement for the sorely missed Dean Ashton.

However, speculation is rampant regarding other attacking options apparently being pursued by Gradi. It seems increasingly likely that the loan target is Eddie Johnson although he is currently on holiday. Gradi admitted, “We have tried to contact him, but at the moment all we have is the answer phone”. Despite these difficulties there is hope for the anxious Alex fans with Dario stating that, “I remain confident that something will be sorted out when we can track him down”. The search continues….
