Crewe consider Royals Striker and Geordie Winger.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi is finding it hard to bring in some new blood ahead of the loan window, which closes tomorrow at midnight.

With injuries to a few key players and a bug going round the club, Gradi has already spoken to Steve Coppell about a striker and Glenn Roeder about a winger.

Reading born Simon Cox could be an option for Gradi as he looks to bolster an injury ravaged forward line-up ahead of the home game to Rotherham United. With Luke Varney still injured with a broken toe and Nicky Maynard not fully fit and along with Rodney Jack pulling up on Saturday with a slight Calf strain, Gradi is only down to some inexperienced strikers.

22-year-old Cox has made seven appearances for his hometown club but has only featured once this season in an FA Cup game against Birmingham City. Cox has had two loan spells this season at fellow League One outfit Brentford but failed to score over the two spells.

"I spoke to Steve about a striker who has played in his team, although he is not the sort of forward who is going to get in behind for us," pointed out Gradi to the Stoke Sentinel.

"But Steve would let him come here, so I might still go back and consider that, although he is not exactly what I am looking for."

Crewe MAD understands that the other player Crewe have expressed an interest is Newcastle United's winger Albert O'Brien. 23-year-old winger O'Brien has only featured once for the Geordies in the league and seems available for loan, his previous loan spell was with Carlisle United back in 2005. The Dublin born winger has represented Ireland at various levels and actually came on as a sub in Irelands 4-0 defeat to Holland back in August 2006.
