Crewe triggered a clause in the 23-year-olds contract and he now looks set to join fellow former Exeter City player Danny Woodards who joined back in March.
Crewe MAD revealed exclusively the interest in Jones back in early April for the left back but bided their time as the player was still involved in the play-offs.
Gillingham born Jones made his debut back in 2001 for Leyton Orient when he was 17 years old. He went on to make 79 appearances for the O's. He then joined Kidderminster Harriers back in 2005 during January but could not help them falling out of the league and into the Conference.
During the summer of 2005 he joined Exeter City and linked up with his old boss Alex Inglethorpe for whom he worked with during the youth set-up at Brisbane Road.
The last two seasons Jones has gone on to make 77 league appearances for the Grecians scoring a remarkable 17 goals although last weekend the Grecians missed out on a return to League Two after they lost 2-1 to Morecambe in the Conference Play-off Final.
