Bowler told the Crewe Chronicle "We are obviously very keen and anxious to appoint a new manager as soon as possible.
"As a board, we met on Sunday to progress things further. But I can`t say what the timescale will be now as things could change very quickly. We have made good progress but I can`t comment further until we have completed certain discussions.
"We had a good range of applicants and I was pleased with that. Some did not have the experience we were looking for, which was disappointing, but we are confident we can appoint somebody who fulfils all our criteria."
