Crewe had hoped to sign Manchester City defender Reece Wabara on loan from the Premiership club but due to Kolo Toure failing a drugs test the Eastfield club have decided to hold onto the player.
Crewe boss Dario Gradi said "David Platt was very good and had made the arrangements for us to borrow one of his young players," he told BBC Radio Stoke.
"That was almost done and dusted, but the problem they've got with Toure has put paid to that for the time being.
"It's not dead but it's not going to happen this weekend."
