The Railwaymen make there third visit to Whaddon Road and hope for to make it two wins back to back. Cheltenham have not won in the last five home games and it is an ideal time for Crewe to play the Robins. The Robins did start the season off with a win but now find themselves third from bottom on 9 points with only Millwall and Bournemouth below them. Add to the fact that John Ward resigned to take over at Carlisle United and you could say it has been a testing time for the Gloucestershire club but Keith Downing is in charge for now as the club looks for a new manager.
Crewe last played Cheltenham at the turn on the New Year when they drew 1-1 and the previous game at Whaddon Road saw the Railwaymen win 4-0 on Boxing Day back in 2002.
The Ground
Whaddon Road dates back to 1932 and the club has a capacity of 7,066 with 3,912 being seats. The away end is the newest part of the ground which was opened back in 2005 and holds 1,100 away fans.
Where to Drink
Away supporters are allowed in the club bar for a small fee and I can recommend the bar which on my last visit had Sky Sports and cheap beer. Other pubs near to the ground are Fox and Hounds and the Greyhound which are close to the ground and give a friendly welcome.
Travel
Train
For those going on the train the walk from the station is over two miles and can take up to 35-40 minutes so a Taxi is recommended.
Coach
The official coach departs Crewe at 10am from the stadium.
Price - £10 (ST holders and Members) / £11 (non-ST holders and non-members)
Car
Distance from Crewe to Cheltenham is 100 miles.
Leave the M5 at junction 10 and take the A4019 towards Cheltenham. Keep straight on through the traffic lights, until you come to large roundabout (there is a McDonalds on the left), at which you turn left. Continue up this road going over a double mini roundabout. Keep going for about 300 yards and then turn right into Swindon Lane. Go over the level crossing and straight over the next roundabout (signposted Prestbury) passing the race course on your left. Turn right into Albert Road (signposted Gloucestershire University) and at the bottom at the roundabout turn left into Prestbury Road, (the ground is signposted from here) and then further down Prestbury Road, turn right into Whaddon Road. The ground is down on the left.
For the Away Fan
As mentioned above the fans are housed in the new Carlsberg Stand which has excellent facilities with good leg room. The food that club offer is very good from burgers, hotdogs, bacon baps and the usual pie.
