Crewe had done well to take a 1-0 lead in 23rd minute from Nick Farquharson but Cambridge hit back before the break to go 2-1 up at half-time. Crewe applied pressure in the second half and especially towards the end but it was all in vain for the young Railwaymen. A crowd of 278 watched the game along with a host of scouts from the Premiership and Championship, the U's will now visit Cardiff City in the fourth round.
