About the Ground
Crewe are on the road this weekend and next stop is the Withdean Stadium in Brighton. The Alex's last visit to the Withdean ended up with Crewe taking a 2-2 draw against the Seagulls.
The ground it self has been Brighton's home since 1999 after the closure of the Goldstone Ground in 1997 and then spending two years playing at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium. The Withdean Stadium was opened in 1936 and is actually an athletics stadium but it has become a temporary home for the Seagulls.
The new ground is expected to be built at Falmer and although it has been granted by the goverment to build a 22,000 all seater at this proposed site but local opposition may delay it even further.
Where to Drink
Brighton boasts a host of pubs in the City and one that I enjoyed was next to the cricket ground at Hove but here are some recommended ones nearer to the ground. A bar that is on site and located at the North Stand, The Sportsman is open of matchdays but can get rather crowded. Preston Brewery Tap is located one mile from the ground and is on the main A23 road but this to can get crowded.
Travel
By train
The stadium is 15 minutes walk from Preston Park station which is one stop away from Brighton station. A lot of away supporters go straight into Brighton to use the many pubs and restaurants around the main station and use their travel voucher to get to the ground via Preston Park.
By coach
The official one leaves 07:00 cost £19 members + season ticket holders and £20 non-members also John Ford's coach a.k.a Sandbach Supporters leaves Crewe 07:00 and the cost is £12 please contact Scott Kynnersley for more information and booking via
By Car
Distance from Crewe to Brighton is 226 miles.
With no parking allowed around the ground all supporters must use the two park and ride sites set up by the club. All tickets will include a travel voucher, which entitles you to free use of this service. It's also gives you free train or bus travel to the ground from the local area.
The park and ride Crewe supporters' need is the Mill Road park and ride can be accessed from the A23/A27 turn-off at Patcham and can not be entered from the Hove turn-off of the A27. When you get to the park and ride please hand in all the travel vouchers for everyone in your car to one of the steward.
For the Away fan
Away fans are housed in the West Stand. The stand holds 900 supporters and like the majority of the ground it is exposed to the elements. So you have been warned. Also no beer is avaliable once inside the ground.
