Bankole spent 2 months onloan at Barnet but last week was re-called to cover for the injured Clayton Ince. With the manager at Barnet, who took Bankole down south, leaving for Brentford then the Barnet chairman wasn't convinced by Dario's excuse to take Bankole back.

Dario promised Barnet that Brentford weren't about to take Bankole, as they'd had no approach from Brentford. However, on deadline day when Bankole had returned, Brentford made an approach for Bankole and offered him a deal but Dario didn't let the transfer go through after promising Barnet that Bankole wasn't about to sign for Brentford.

Dario told CreweAlex.net, the official site: "We asked Barnet if we could bring him back and they thought it was because we wanted to send him to Brentford. But I assured them that wasn't the case and we had had no contact from Brentford at that stage.

"However Brentford then rang us up and tried to get him, but I told them our position and that we needed him here."

Dario has though made it quite clear to Bankole that there isn't a future at Crewe for him and from the end of the season he is free to leave the club as his contract, that runs out in July, will not be renewed.

"We will release him in the summer and he knows that because I have spoken to him about it. But until then we need him here."
