22-year-old Brayford who was made captain when Crewe played Burton last month has kept the armband since and the former Brewers defender told Radio Stoke "We won't let teams bully us, we'll stand our ground and hopefully then our good football will pay off."

He added "They're a good bunch of lads, we stick together and we do it in the right way.

Brayford a former Stoke City season-ticket holder is relishing the prospect of putting one over Vale this coming Saturday.

Brayford will be hoping for more of the same from Crewe at Vale Park as the Railwaymen look to keep that small glimmer of hope of making the play-offs.

Brayford went on to say "If we can come out of the traps like we did against Notts County, who are one of the best teams in the league, we can get something out of it,"

"It's nice playing local derbies, they got one over on us at the start of the season, so it's probably our turn to get one over on them."
